Dear Chevalier du Bois,
The recent announcement by His Excellency the Minster of State, who cleared up the Gazette confusion by confirming your appointment as Minister of Finance and the Marine this month, has gone a long way towards how I feel about the enmity that exists between us. As I held the office prior to your appointment I naturally wanted the post to filled as soon as possible so as to aid the efforts of the forthcoming summer campaign and felt somewhat inflamed by what appeared to be you purporting to hold two appointments as well as command of the KM's. I must of course now assume that you cannot in fact be the 1st Army QMG and that your unauthorized demands where made out of understandable frustration. It has been a confusing time for everybody in Paris, especially with the announcement of a state of emergency! I lay the blame for that incident at former Commissioner le Blanc, seeking merely to sully the good name of His Grace le Duc de Mylcandonai.
Therefore, as I see things we have had a misunderstanding. Since Horse Guards will be advancing imminently to the front to engage the enemy and it is entirely possible I may not get another opportunity, I would like to offer my apology for accusing you of littering and any other possible insults of personal honour which occurred as a result of a flurry of heated correspondence between us. While we may both be men of honour we must not let our personal pride hinder us in our cause to pursue the best interests for His Majesty and France. To that end I extend the hand of friendship in the hope that our camaraderie as officers will allow us to put the recent events behind us so that we may be fully focused on the summer campaign as well as a stable, convivial and prosperous time for all.
