Moussa I had an interesting conversation with my father that pretty much said it all. We were talking about news sources. I told him that his television news doesn't begin to cover everything. He loves his television news. He asked for examples - so I gave him this one. He is getting old, however (80) and when I told him the whole story he thought I said that the man was Muslim. So when I told him what happened to this Sister in the courtroom he said all the usual stuff like "how could they let him go long enough to stab her so many times?" And then he said, "See he WAS a terrorist." I said, "Dad, no SHE was Muslim, not the man." OH! So the point was made.. both points really. Then he went on to say that Muslims are beginning to be persecuted in the EU. I said not as badly as the US I'll bet. Well then he got mad at me so - conversation over.
You're right to be upset. We all are. Sister Aafia is another victim. She's still alive by the grace of Allah(swt) but I wonder if she will ever be whole again? There are so many victims - in Iraq, Afghanistan, of the U.S. and I'm sure that's why it goes unreported here. He did say there was something on CNN (probably the bottom scroll bar) but he didn't know anything about it. BTW I use my father as a gauge sort of - to get an idea of what the average Joe who pays no attention - is getting out of television news. A.
