For banglapenguin project. I have a packaging system. Let's keep the core system as it is. any additional pakages go to /opt directory. I could write a MS windows tm like installer for Installing additional packages. I sugest we use the standard unix/linux file hirarcy. all applications go to /opt and /etc/opt for all configuation files. I looked into the basic standards and this is how it is done.
I am working on the core system. LFS though nice but it s damn difficult to put it up completely ;-) . But I am working on it. Now you might ask why not use the standard redhat system. I see point in it. but then we have to plot a dependency chart for all redhat applications. Why so that dependencies are transperent to end users. What I would hate to see is the end user trying to satisfy dependencies. + there is a speed consideration. RH8.0 is heavy. both on ram and on hdd. and on my poor mans cpu. one of my plan is to wrap rpm files with additional information in our packaging system. and a single enduser application would also include rpms of it's dependencies. Though the package size increases but dependency problem resolved. so all the installer would do is take the chocolate box. and install all the rpms needed. and since we would be using /opt the basic system rpms remain intact. secound plan is not to use rpms at all. Then it would be reinventing the wheel. But then what the hell it would be fun. if you did not understand what i am talking about. it will become clear when i post the design plan for bangla desktop. But this project heavyly depends on the free bangla font team. Unfortunately I neiter can read bangla nor do i know how fonts are made.so sayabindu gimli has to do that one. unless there is no other way. I could fix pango but then I have to study it's code. If you want me there tell me. ritwik da I seem to have lost the compilation code. I'll write it again. And post it. Damn I should have known, i should have kept a backup somewhere. Can anyone specify the features that need to be compiled out of X server. I really see no point in the endless things that X can do. Makes it powerful but makes it slow. gollum ____________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from this list [Bangla Penguin] send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe banglapenguin' in the subjectline and body.
