The Guide's Picks for Finding the Best Food in Indonesia

According to "The Miele Guide," the search for fine cuisine in Indonesia is
still a challenging one.

Two restaurants in Bali made the guide's top 20 list: Mozaic, under chef Chris
Salans at No. 6, and Ku De Ta under chef Phillip Davenport at No. 9. Other
restaurants that rounded off the top five in Indonesia were also from Bali:
Naughty Nuri's Warung and Grill, Sarong Restaurant Bali and Bumbu Bali.

In the Jakarta area, 11 restaurants were included in the guide. These were
Blowfish Kitchen and Bar, C's Steak and Seafood Restaurant, Cork & Screw,
Loewy, Bunga Rampai, Kembang Goela, Restoran Beautika, Cassis, Emilie, Pepenero
(Kuningan) and Scusa.

Of the Bali restaurants in the guide, I have had the chance to dine at Bumbu
Bali and Made's Warung in Seminyak. While I can't say that they're my personal
favorites - Warung Ibu Oka and Casa Luna are so far - these restaurants were
worth the trip.

My last attempt to try Mozaic was unfortunately on the day the restaurant was
closed. And while I think that the guide's description of Ku De Ta as "hands
down, one of the coolest places in Asia in which to eat, drink, and be merry"
is a bit over the top, I look forward to giving the place a shot.

As for the guide's Jakarta picks, they are nothing new to the city's foodies.
My personal favorites among them are Emilie and Pepenero.
