This is exactly the implemented behavior. A job is configured for a
specific time, it can not be startet, so the job will be marked as failed.

Client Initiated Connections have been added primarily to have a more
flexible network setup. With it, you are able to cope with changing
client IP adresses. Also some firewall settings prefer this setup.

For the behavior you want, a work around is described at "When Client is
present, trigger backup" in

about how to trigger backups only when the client is present.
