Just want to give an update if anyone is interested. Seems like the problem was 
on our router's end. We have set all mtus to enable jumbo frames @ 9000 but the 
opnsense router doesnt reflect on the terminal side. It shows an mtu of 9000 
only on the webgui. Solved when i upgraded the router to 17.7, previous version 
which also has the same bug is 16.7
