Hello, I'm seeking some guidance regarding file integrity verification within Bareos, specifically concerning the hash algorithms used for Verify jobs.
Currently, when configuring the verify options within the Include block of a Fileset, I only see MD5 and SHA1 listed as available algorithms for verification. However, for our security requirements, we need a more cryptographically secure method like SHA256 or SHA512. This leads to my main point of confusion: Bareos does offer the option to create SHA256/512 checksums. Why is there this discrepancy? Is there a reason why SHA256/SHA512 hashes, once generated, cannot be directly leveraged for the verification process within a Verify job? My core question is: Is it possible to perform Bareos Verify jobs using SHA256 or SHA512 Hashes or will it be possible in future? If not directly supported by the verify options, is there a recommended workaround, a configuration I'm missing, or perhaps an external script/method that can integrate this functionality to ensure robust file integrity checks with stronger algorithms?
