I've accompanied a singer using this version of Amarilli. As I recall,
the accompaniment was intended for lyra-viol and had some
idiosyncratic/idiomatic figures. Much though not all of it can
translate to pluckers and I worked something out on theorbo and it
worked pretty well. The ms is pretty messy and the rhythms are very
tricky--it was a challenge to put it together and to keep together in
performance--but probably worth the effort--the audience is sort of
   overwhelmed by the vocal pyrotechnics.

While I originally performed from a copy of the ms, I eventually made
an edition for myself--also worth the effort to see how the piece has
been "recomposed." It also made the singer a little more conscious of
what she was doing and made her a little more aware of trying to work
with the accompaniment instead of just around or against it.

The facsimile can be found in Elise Jorgensen's multi-volume collection
of English music manuscripts (Garland Press, I think)

   Good luck with it.

   Greetings, Roland.
I just dig out the old LP, and it states,
"The highly ornamented version sung on this record to the
accompaniment of the viol, is from GB Lbm Edgerton MS 2871,
pp.94-95. The popularity of this song in England is shown by its
presence in several other MSS of the time".
   I hope this helps.
