I seem to have hit exactly the same problem, the device won't go past

      endpoint added to map with bEndpointAddress: 0
        pair.write = 0
        pair.type = 0
    interface added to map with bInterfaceNumber: 0
InterfaceDiscovery::DiscoverIterface: empty altsetting
  config added to map with bConfigurationValue: 1
usb_open(0x8069930)
usb_set_configuration(0x805dc60,1)
usb_claim_interface(0x805dc60,0)
BulkWrite to endpoint 2:
    00000000: 00 00 10 00 01 ff 00 00 a8 18 da 8d 6c 02 00 00  ............l...

usb_release_interface(0x805dc60,0)
usb_close(0x805dc60)
Usb::Error caught: Timeout in usb_bulk_read

This is a bit of a problem because 1) I can't find any firmware on any
site to update a blackberry pearl and 2) I don't have, or have access
to any kind of windows computer if updating the firmware requires such
a beast I shall have to reverse engineer it without a windows machine
to help in order to update the firmware which I do not look forward
to.

Attempting the solution Giulio gave doesn't do anything, in fact
bcharge tells the phone to drain the battery as fast as possible (it
lasts only 20 minutes plugged in once I run bcharge) then the phone is
completely flat and I need to plug it into the wall for hours before
it will even talk to me again. When I first run bcharge the little
charging icon appears for about 800ms before disappearing again.... I
hate the blackberry and at the moment I wish RIM the worst business
for second half of this year, bastards.

Best Regards, Martin Owens
