Well, I took a quick look at NetworkManager, and for something that is
seemingly so critical to proper system operation, I was surprised to find
the documentation so.... light.

It was basically a lot of hand-waving about ease of use and automation. :-)

Unfortunately, I don't have more time to study this today, but it appears
that the issues regarding PPP in general, or even PPPoE, might have some
bearing on how Barry works with the modem.  There were Ubuntu bug reports
on these things, so maybe that's a useful avenue to pursue.

I found it interesting that some people added (on Debian/Ubuntu based
systems) their ppp scripts to /etc/network/interfaces.

It seems like adding the following lines to /etc/network/interfaces
might help NetworkManager get un-confused, but I have no time to test it
today.

        iface barry-sprint inet ppp
        provider barry-sprint
