Jeff,
This is kind of a common problem. The modem is not getting initialized
and is not responding to the chat script commands. You will need to
play with the chat script to get the modem to respond as expected.
One thing to try; in the CVS under the contrib directory there is a ruby
script to test the modem:
modemtest.rb
It uses pppob to send commands to the modem. You will need ruby
installed and modify the $PPP variable in the script for your
installation/password. Most of the time just running modemtest.rb and
re-plugging the BB a few times will initialize the modem so the chat
script will work. :-)
