Thanks Nicolas! I've merged the compile fix and the French translation fix. As for the gettext change, I never really liked the Makefile.in.in file anyway... it looks autogenerated, and I like to keep those out of the tree if possible. Is it possible to change the build system, perhaps add something to buildgen.sh, to create those Makefile.in.in files on the fly?
