I know it's easier on the cpu to let postfix deal with them.
But in some situations it's not possible to let them deal with it or to have the sender send the email again. These situations can lead to nasty discussion with bosses/endusers/spause. Therefore I rather spend some money on cpu-power/ram/storage (which come rather cheap nowadays) and avoid that situation all together by putting the mail aside for some time. But that's just my opinion and method of work.
