Thanks Andrew...
seems like after a reboot of the it did create all these files (maybe I did
run something accidentally that created the files), the error does not come
up anymore, now I have this:

--------------------------------------------
(px)[root@smtp baruwa]# searchd
Sphinx 2.0.6-id64-release (r3473)
Copyright (c) 2001-2012, Andrew Aksyonoff
Copyright (c) 2008-2012, Sphinx Technologies Inc (http://sphinxsearch.com)

using config file '/usr/local/etc/sphinx.conf'...
WARNING: compat_sphinxql_magics=1 is deprecated; please update your
application and config
FATAL: failed to lock pid file '/var/log/sphinx/searchd.pid': Resource
temporarily unavailable (searchd already running?)
--------------------------------------------

is this a normal behaviour? or did I miss something?
Thanks.
Anis
