Okay getting further.

I copied the sample supplied. And now get:

Possible. I'll take note on the installer.

It’s strange. I noticed that /var/log/sphinxsearchsearch does not exist but
/var/log/sphinxsearch does hence the error. I’m updating the conf file of
sphinx and deleting all the extra search. Possible bug?

That worked like a champ. Not sure what I missed? Now when I do:

sudo sed -i -e 's:START=no:START=yes:' /etc/default/sphinxsearch sudo sed -i -e
's:/var/log/sphinx:/var/log/sphinxsearch:' \ -e
's:/var/lib/sphinx:/var/lib/sphinxsearch:' sphinx.conf sudo cp sphinx.conf
/etc/sphinxsearch/ sudo service sphinxsearch start

I get:

FATAL: failed to open log file '/var/log/sphinxsearchsearch/searchd.log': No
such file or directory

I do appreciate your help. Is the guide just not updated for Ubuntu 12.10?
