Dear Nickals Nordborg
May be you remember me, I have written a couple of times, asking for help to
setting up BASE at my lab. I am a research assistant, and I am in charge of the
cDNA microarray facility. Finally I have given up, I really don´t have the
neccessary bases regarding computing to set it up, so my boss has agreed that
we bring somebody to help us set it up. I was wondering if you your self would
be interested in doing so, or if you could advise me of someone.
The job would be to set up all the information flow from our microarray
spotter, to the lasser software, to BASE and to set up normalization pipeline
and two gene expression analysis pipelines (a gene expression analysis and a
SFP genotyping analysis) in Biooconductor, and finally to get OMNIVIZ working
(an analysis software).
Also since I and a collegue, willl be in charge of the microarray facility
and projects here after this person leaves CIAT, the job would include to teach
us at least the basics of R and of Bioconductor and of everything he/she sets
up, so we will be able to solve minor difficulties that come up in the future.
It is a work from scratch to tell the truth. We do have a couple of people
who understand about bioinformatics (they know perl, and other things I don´t
even know what are they called) so there would be some support here, we have
good internet connections, and we are well equiped regarding a server we just
bought. So probably he/she would have to write scripts, know how to handle R,
perl, Bioconductor, html language, servers.
I don´t really know how long this would take, probaly you can have a better
idea than I do. We are able to pay the bioinformatician that comes an
international competitive income, which I really don´t know how much is it, and
he/she would have to spend that time here at CIAT, which is located in
Colombia, South America. There are really no seriuos safety risks, although
some people may think there are. You probably can check out CIATs web page
(www.ciat.cgiar.org) and you will see it is the International Center for
Tropical Agriculture, where many international (USA, Austria, England,
Australia, Japan, Brazil) staff work.
I am done with this long message, I hope you can help me get someone fit to
do this job. I am sure it would also be an enriching opportunity for someone to
spend some time at Colombia, under completely safe conditions.
Thankyou very much,
Best regards,
Diana Bernal

Hello all,
We have now released BASE 2.6.3. The release is a bug fix release for
some minor bugs only. We expect this to be the last release of the 2.6.x
branch. 2.7.0 is scheduled for May 22, but may be released earlier if no
more problems show up during testing.
