It leaves a DOS box open, but that's fine so long as I can adjust memory
setting for BaseX.

We're running the latest version of Java, but got the same issue running
1.7. Setting the memory to -Xmx2048m in the Java control panel in Windows
did not have the desired effect.
Any help would be much appreciated!
