Hi Jan, I think it would be best to use the ZIP distribution, if you check out the sources you have to make sure to compile all maven projects (BaseXHTTP is part of the bases-api package).
The ZIP distribution will contain a script to call basexhttp that will load both BaseX & basex-api in the classpath :-) Hope this helps! Best from Konstanz Michael
