There was a suggestion earlier this year about using Go Daddy. I've checked there and they've got an $8.00/year rate for five year renewals, and a $7.95/year rate for doamin name transfers. Any other suggestions?

GoDaddy likes to yank your name servers and point them to its own, rendering your domain non-functional even while it's valid and paid for. You wouldn't believe how many support tickets come as a result of this behavior (they even do it to sysadmins).

I don't recommend picking based on price.

I'd go with Domain Direct, which charges $14.99 per year (with discounts for multi-year).
