Reviews

JohnO
Went to Shape of Water. Worth full price. Rich & atmospheric. Echos of other
del Toro films. Won Golden Globe for director.
Yochanan: Saw it today. Liked not loved it a lot. Need to think on it more.
Sets, costumes & atmosphere wonderful. Matinee. May go up
Mo: Looking forward to it.
Cinemarks movie club. $8.99/moth - all 2-D is $8.99 (first “free”) and discount
on concession, and service charge free. Worth it, especially with this year’s
slate of films.

Yochanan
Saw Jumanji. Had low expectations, and really enjoyed it. Great chemistry.
Connie Willis - Cross Talk. Followed some of her trope, but wonderful must read.

evilKevin
Sonheim on Sondheim at the new 3Below theater and lounge - in the old Camera 3.
New seats, pauint, wall treatments, wide stage for productions and big screen
for films. Beautiful remodel. Production was really entertaining. 8 performers
plus Sonheim on screen. Including discarded numbers. 3belowtheaters.com

Bradford
Berkeley Comic Convention. One day, one room, and nothing but comic books. ‘30s
to the present. Good comics, good prime rib…

DaveC
Went SF this weekend for SketchFest. Setlist - or as Dave calls it flop sweat
on parade. Throwing comics on stage for random improv. Dana Gould was his
favorite. Second show was Celebrity Autobiography- where comedians read from
celebrity autobiographies. Fun show. Worth it.

Diane
Flintstone house on 280 have had dinosaurs added - but that’s not her review.
Read a book: Resistance by Samit Basu Superheroes, action, anime, kaijus.
Worth it.
Was at FurtherConfusion with WC76. Fun. Loving life. Jonathan has volunteered
to help with fan tables.

Lisa
Saw Mary and the Witches Flower - young former Gibli animators with their own
studio. First film. Was a Fathomevents. Worth full price - wish it was more
widely available. Brits did voices for the dubs. Beautiful film.

Jonathan
Darkest Hour. Churchill during WWII. Liberties taken. Gary Oldman will probably
be Oscar noms. Glad he saw it.
The Good Place: Clever. Woman is in the good afterlife, but doesn’t belong.
Surprised by a comedy about ethics, and the first season ending.

Atheus
Went to Faction Brewing Company in Alameda. Next to St. George Spirits. Liked
an entire 6 flight of beers. Worth travel time round trip.
