Batik + JDK1.4

Hi there!

        Has anyone tried Batik with JDK1.4? I know it's too fresh and
still beta, but all the graphics performance they promise seems to come
with a minus sign preceeding... It was *very* slower than JDK1.3 I've been
using so far.
