Thanks for your response. I am not using any image types like png, jpeg or
tiff etc. I am using just raw rgb buffer and the bufferedimage I created is
of type ARGB and it is displayed on a Java Canvas component. Hope I make
sense. I tried the FORCE_TRANSPARENT_WHITE hint but still doesn't seem to
work.

If you are using PNG files, it could be that the viewer does not support
alpha correctly, you could use work around in ImageTranscoder Hints
FORCE_TRANSPARENT_WHITE hint
