Hi, I have worked some more on the problem, and am close to creating a small proof of concept.
One of the time-consumers has been identified: <rect id="gwmbg" x="-122200" y="-100000" width="256620" height="210000" style="fill:#ffffff"/> This reduces the transcoding time with 30 seconds. A very small SVG file (one path) can be transcoded within a second now. Trying the mapWaadt.svg, the results are very promising. We're diving more into the geomedia format now, to discover what else might be wrong.
