What kind of errors are you getting? I never got errors, I just got empty boxes rendered where the text should be.
As for filtering out unusable fonts, search the list for fonts or something like that. Someone (probably Thomas) described a way to test each font. I think I need manually filter out the ones that are not supported. Do you know if there is a way to turn off the batik's runtime exception catcher, so that my try and catch statement can catch these exception and do something, rather than batik's default runtime exception catcher.
