It is not, but you may need to give the headless command line
option to Java when you start it:
-Djava.awt.headless=true

Sure, Batik doesn't have a problem with that. You must of course
stay away from the swing stuff (e.g. jsvgcanvas). But the DOM and
rendering stuff will work fine.
