Yes, I'd say the best way was to customize the existing
AbstractZoomInteractor and disable the default one. As Thomas stated,
now that Java 1.3 support was dropped, this could be added to the
default zoom interactor, so I'd invite you to contribute a patch to
the existing source code if you come up to a solution, by creating a
new bug report [1] and/or by adding it to a follow-up in this thread.
