Possibly not the best mailing list...? Transcoding to PDF/PS/etc. is
made using Apache FOP, so I'd say that these sort of questions can be
better asked there [1].

Regarding text conversion to outlines, you may take a look at a
related thread [2] that, although what's being attempted there is the
opposite (avoiding text being outlined to paths), it may provide you
with some tips on how to trigger the behavior. ;-)
