Hi everyone,

I've just noticed LiveConnect being removed from Firefox trunk version
(see Firefox bug 442399 [1]). Although this means that actually only
within a few months (or even years) users will be affected, folks
using Java <--> ECMAScript binding features (for example, in
Batik-based applets) may want to start taking a look at what's
involved. There's already plenty of documentation for the new plug-in
("plugin2") [3] and, according to the referred bug [1], only a few
code changes should be required: please post your findings! :-)

Note that, also according to the referred bug [1] these changes are
only for JRE/JDK above version 1.6 update 10, so pretty far beyond the
current scope of Batik (Java 1.4, see somehow related bug 46434 [2]).
But I though like raising this up, as being prepared is usually better
than being caught in surprise! ;-)

Finally, users of Firefox nightly builds [4] will start experiencing
the symptoms already (applets possibly broken), another reason why
this was posted (before weird questions start to be asked in the
mailing list). Should a tracker bug and/or FAQ item be created to
address this?

Hope this helps,
 Helder
