It's funny that's under Linux and you provide almost no information (Java vendor, JDK/JRE version, Linux flavor - remember there are dozens!, Batik version, etc.) but it might be related with bug 47917 [1]. Please confirm if so and add, at least, the missing information above and other you may find interesting to help us understanding what's happening.
