why can i not get the extent of a space (" ") character that is alone by
itself in a text node? i am getting this:

the background for this is - since i was having kerning problems, and i can
actually do without kerning at all,
so i thought i could just do the positioning manually. but if place the glyphs
one by one, i cannot figure out
the extent of spaced (aside from breaking all kinds of scripts, i.e. korean
wouldnt work like this, i guess).
so … any suggestions? how can i place glyphs AND know WHERE EXACTLY they are?
