What a good idea! ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Aaron Roth <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 6:39 AM Subject: [scala] LSUG/ThoughtWorks Code Dojo on 21 July To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Dear All, I'm very pleased to announced that the London Scala Users Group, in conjunction with ThoughtWorks, will be holding what is, as far as I know, the world's first Scala code dojo. This will take place at ThoughtWorks' Holborn offices on Monday, 21 July, in the evening and should be well-provisioned with pizza. Here's the announcement on Upcoming: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/812966. Anyone intending to attend, please sign up on Upcoming so we get a fair idea of how many people will show up. (A big thank you to Robert Rees at ThoughtWorks for securing us a venue. And to Richard Dallaway for suggesting the code dojo in the first place.) The idea is to introduce Scala to people who will hopefully not have had much experience with it. Jamie Webb has graciously agreed to give an introductory talk about Scala in the first part of the evening, after which we will proceed to coding. For those not familiar with the dojo format, the coding part of the evening will entail introducing a seemingly simple, real-world problem and then trying to code up a "solution" to said problem using newfound Scala skills. "Problem" may be a bit of misnomer, since the thing is very open-ended, and the idea is, as much as anything, to play purposefully with Scala and see where things end up. Please pass along this invitation to anyone you think might be interested, but please also have them register in advance at Upcoming if they intend to come. Finally, if you'd like to join the London Scala Users Group mailing list, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> .
