I have a list of first and last names, each on a separate line, each line ending with a Return character. My goal is to make such lists for movie credits I am creating in Final Cut Pro or Motion. The lists are to be Pasted into the appropriate text areas in either Final Cut Pro or Motion. Versions of all apps are current. For now let's say the list is 3 lines though the result is the same with any number of lines.

When I Copy the 3 lines in BBEdit and Paste them into either Final Cut Pro or Motion, the end of line character is seen as a Space character by these apps. All the names appear on one line separated by Space characters instead of on separate lines.

I want to do 2 things:

1. Make a script that will show me the hex value of any of the characters, particularly this end of line character. I have not been able to find a command in BBEdit to do this but would be happy to have it pointed out to me if it exists. 2. Change the end of line character in BBEdit to one that Final Cut Pro or Motion will recognize as a new line character.

Additional info regarding this scenario in other text apps, Text Edit and Pages.

If I Copy the 3 lines from BBEdit into Text Edit or Pages, the list looks correct (each name on a separate line). However, the end of line characters are in fact the same as they were in BBEdit. When I Copy the list from Text Edit or Pages and Paste it into the video apps, the result is the same as Copying and Pasting from BBEdit. Neither Text Edit nor Pages has any means to immediately tell me the hex value of these end of line characters. In Text Edit I can replace these end of line characters with the ones that Text Edit normally uses by using the Find and Replace routine in Text Edit. Having done this, the same list can be Pasted into the video apps and the names will appear as I want on separate lines.

Also, if I type the names list into Text Edit, the list looks correct and Copies and Pastes correctly into the video apps. Now I Copy this list from Text Edit and Paste it into BBEdit. The list LOOKS OK in BBEdit. Then I Copy this list from BBEdit and Paste it into the video apps and see that BBEdit has replaced the end of line characters with its own and that the names are now all on one line in the video apps.

Thanks for feedback on this.
