computer to which I have access.

That's the culprit.

Thank goodness. I just *knew* something was not right. I could not imagine that such behavior would be tolerated.

FWIW, the page in question was received from a client who wanted me to make changes. Bad luck, I suppose, that this should be my first experience with previewing in BBEdit. Whew!
