There is a patch that resolves this problem for the v.X version of
Entourage, it can be found on Microsoft's site without too much
trouble. A colleague of mine had this problem a year or so ago and
the only method to reliably retrieve his emails that worked was
installing the upgrade patch. (We also upgraded him to Office 2004
after the database was safely restored, but I do not recall that as
being a required part of the solution.)
