From your description it sounds like a Text Factory might help.

Text factories are great, I love them, but to get this to work for what I want to do, I'd need to be able to invoke text factories inside a text factory. And give the called text factory a target of a search results browser which would be created earlier in the originating text factory.

My fave part about text factories is that they're xml and thus I can hack them, like I did a couple years ago when I wrote one with about 250+ search/replace regexes to process some 3,000 files.

Now, how can I open a text factory inside BBEdit as plain xml text instead of the Text factory dialogue?

If you could make File Groups xml I'd be ecstatic! (it's true, I have no life :-)
