It can contain anything that may be in a standard quoted string. It can include a <, but not a CR or LF or other 'invisible' characters. If it contains a " it must be escaped. --> "Samuel \"Mark Twain\" Clemens" although it would be better to use single quotes in the example to avoid the \"'s.

Can you tell me where in the RFC is says this?

Maybe I'm just blind (but I'm certainly too lazy to read the entire RFC)
