Improving Quick Search is on our list of things to do, but I can't
tell you (because I don't know) when that's expected to ship.

Well, there are a few things that might help.

Pressing return/enter to complete the search does dismiss the dialog,
but typing Command-G (the keyboard equivalent for Find Again) leaves
it visible. Also, clicking the search button in the window will
search, leaving the window visible.

However, because all of the searching commands are available though
key-equivilents, you can perform most searches without bringing the
find dialog up at all. I tend to select the term I'm looking for, type
Command-E (Use Selection for Find), then keep typing Command-G (Find
Next) until I find the instance I'm looking for.

The key equivalents for the direct search gestures, as well as the
ones that drive the Search window can be configured in the Menus
preference pane.

Hope this helps,

Steve
