Wow, good call! In fact I do have the iMac's aux video output sent to my 
big TV, but nothing ever goes there unless I drag it over. Nothing except, 
apparently, BBEdit's Search dialog! 

I switched the external display into mirror mode, and the search dialog 
appeared on my main screen. 

Thanks for figuring out this head-scratcher!
