Good morning folks,
We're currently working on a feature update to BBEdit 12, which
includes a number of new features, as well as fixes for
previously reported issues.
Testing is currently underway, and we have a stable pre-release
version ready for use.
Note that this is a _pre-release_ version. The intent is to fix
bugs and address areas of improvement based on what our
customers have reported. However, since the software is at this
point not fully tested, there _may_ be bugs and regressions.
If this prospect makes you nervous, then sticking with the
public release versions is your best course of action. Nobody
will be offended if you choose to do so; you're under no
obligation to install and use anything but a public release. :-)
Complete change notes to date for all the pre-release builds in
this cycle are available here:
<https://s3.amazonaws.com/BBSW-download/notes-12.5.txt>
The change notes are organized into additions, changes, and
fixes, and are annotated where appropriate with case numbers. So
if you recognize a number corresponding to a support case that
was opened for you, you can now verify that it's been fixed
correctly. Please take the time to review the changes before
using the new build -- it'll be worth your time.

version 12.5 (411031) (2018-10-09)
* This version of BBEdit requires macOS 10.12.6 or later. It will
not run on previous versions of macOS or Mac OS X.

Fixes
-----
* [NFR] [361119] Fixed a crash in the Markup Builder panel which
would occur when using "Edit Markup" to create a tag which wasn't
necessarily allowed at that point.
* Fixed the tendency of the startup progress panel to stay in
front even when BBEdit was in the background.
* Reworked the internals of the Markup Builder panel (used by Edit
Markup and the direct tag-generation commands on the Markup menu)
to correct various behavior and appearance glitches.
* Added an `NSAppleEventsUsageDescription` value to the
command-line tools, so that if the OS ever pays attention
to that
value when running a UI-less process, the prompts will reflect
the intended usage. (Radar 45113119)
* [360856] When running on macOS 10.14, the command-line tools
will preflight their operations to make sure that they've been
allowed to send events to BBEdit. This may prompt you to allow
access. If you deny access, or have previously done so, the tools
won't work correctly until you run this Terminal command (and
they will tell you so):
`tccutil reset AppleEvents`
* [361237] Fixed a bug in which the HTML link checker would in
some situations report that it was unable to find a document
referenced by a relative link.
*fin*
One final note: If you run into a bug in a pre-release version,
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT THE BUG TO THE LIST. This includes asking
about whether others have seen the same problem. Instead, please
send a bug report to <[email protected]> and we will deal
with it there. This will help us keep the list discussion on
topic and productive for all list members.
The package can be downloaded from our web server:

Enjoy,
R.

Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they
sedate me.
