To be clear I'm suggesting. Open BBEdit, Settings, Application tab, and toggle the "Reopen documents that were open on last quit" preference off.
Quit and open BBEdit, hopefully no documents open. Open Settings, Application tab, and toggle the preference back on. Quit and open BBEdit to test.
