I'm running the latest BBEdit on latest macOS, and this is the path to my current BBEdit backups folder:

'/Users/me/Library/Containers/com.barebones.bbedit/Data/Documents/BBEdit Backups'

See if you have anything on that path.

Also, one other possibility: Are you the only user logging in to this machine? You would need to be the owner of this directory, based on the permissions you mentioned - only owner can write.
