Fastmail is also known as Cluemail. I put my parents onto them years ago and they have been extremely helpful at that level. They also are big contributers to Cyrus IMAP and other OSS projects. I am sad to hear that they may have gone downhill.
I use Gmail for mailing lists but I switched my personal email to Pobox.com some time ago and I've been happy with them.
