I'm not sure what you mean by the final sentence. Could you elaborate?
Are you saying that your _problem_ was caused by not using iwconfig 'too
fast'? Or fast enough?

I believe there are people who can't associate, or can't do DHCP, until
they reduce the rate from 54Mbps to something lower. I _can_ associate
at 54Mbps and pick up both IPv6 and IPv4 addresses -- but even when I'm
within a metre of the AP I see many lost packets at 54Mbps.

Testing it with a large download from a local machine shows that in
reality it's _much_ faster if I switch to 11Mbps.
