I was assuming it to be a power problem, following Michaels's comments,
but I do intend to revisit the issue.

I keep a patch in my tree that disables 802.11g rates for
bcm43xx_mac80211, but it's a separate issue.  Using higher rates just
delays the time when data transfer starts working, but that Linksys AP
won't work ever.  Besides, the patched bcm43xx_mac80211 is just as good
as bcm43xx with other AP's at the similar distance (10m).
