Given that you're writing for your own office, Python seems like a
great choice. Database connectivity is there, development is
definitely rapid, and you can use the wxPython GUI toolkit
(wxpython.org) which comes with a graphical interface builder.

Dunno what you mean by putting it on the internet, though. But that
sounds like a Java applet might be what you want.

Since we've mentioned Java and Python, why not go for Jython
(jython.org) a Python implementation on the Java platform. It can
access all the Java libraries. You'll need to install Java and Jython
on the client machines though, unless you compile the Jython scripts
to Java classfiles with jythonc (which requires a Java compiler). You
can compile Jython scripts to classfiles, bundle them up in jar files,
and put them up as applets, if you follow the instructions that come
in the Jython docs. Or you could just install Jython on all the
machines to let them run the Jython scripts; it's a pretty simple
install.

Good luck,
