This is Zahid Hossain, Vice President, NSU (North South University)
Wireless Forum.
We are planning to organise a grand event in around 2nd week of July
called TechFesta-2006. A part of that TechFesta-2006 will be LinFesta,
which will be about Linux and OSS.
The "fair" will bring the academia (schools, colleges and universities)
and the industry under one roof. The event is going to be differnt from
conventional "exibition" fair in the sense that it will mostly contain
events like (apart from exibition by corporates )
1. Olympiads ( for school college and universities )
2. Quiz compitions
3. Open Talks, on different issues, delivered by experts.
4. Exibition of Science projects from school and colleges
5. Exibition of HARDWARE projects from universities.
6. Linux Fair.
7. Computer Game Contest ( for school college and universities ).
8. Debate
9. Etc.
The basic ideas of the LinFest (part of TechFesta-2006 ) are as follows
1. Involve some people/company/group working with linux, linux-dev to
show their work
2. Distribute free CDs of different linux distros, e.g (Fedora, Debian,
Gentoo, Ubuntu, Mandriva etc).
3. CDs will be distributed by 1 or 2 Mascot Penguins.
4. Organise Open-Talk session on Linux. Some experienced guys might give
an Open-Talk on Linux to the audience.
We need some serious SPONSORSHIPS for the CD
writings. Intel has verbally praised our effort and they might just
sponsor it, which I am not too sure about yet. Can you give us more
ideas on who/which companies or organizations might sponsor the CD
distribution.
I think this is a great opportunity for us to actually spread the
culture of OSS and linux throughout the country. I think members of
budlug should take this grand opportunity to really do something with
linux and OSS.
To keep up the OSS spirit, i want to keep it open for anyone to work
with us. So if you are interested to work with us.. just drop in a email
for the moment. Later on, when our sponsorship structure becomes solid
for the rest of the TechFesta-2006, we will let you know about our next
plan about LinFest.
