Dear Friends:

As autumn draws near and the growing season comes to a close, it is already time to start looking ahead to the next year; planning projects, and deciding how to best continue our work promoting organic food, farming and gardening throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, and beyond. The CSA directory, many on-site farm classes, outreach events at bookstores and health food stores and lectures at public events have given us the opportunity to share practical growing methods that are in harmony with nature. We also are able to share important information about alternative food sources, and the consequences of our current system of agriculture. The web site, now receiving several hundred visitors each month, plus answering the many calls and emails we receive each week, lets us know there is certainly a need to get this information out there.

This is where we need your help. Up until this point, we have existed financially almost exclusively from grant funding. We are now taking the next step and launching our first campaign to generate donations from individuals. Rural Center for Responsible Living (The Rural Center) is unique in that 90% of our administrative work is volunteer. This means that almost all of the money goes directly towards programming. Very little bureaucracy, very little red tape.

We want to bring our popular gardening classes into the city gardens, create food and society forums, (a series of educational evenings throughout our urban areas) and continue with the CSA database.  In addition we want to do more publishing projects, public outreach and education about the importance of organic food and farming and gardening, continue the on-site farm gardening classes, plus have time to answer the many individual calls, emails and visitors we receive each week.

We have chosen to communicate this important message through email, to save paper, and once again to keep costs at a minimum, so that the money we raise is used in the most effective way possible.

To accomplish the objectives listed above, The Rural Center has set a goal of  $15,000 for the coming year.  Your financial support at a level comfortable within your means will be greatly appreciated.  All gifts to The Rural Center are tax deductible to the full extent currently allowable by law under our IRS tax ID # 61-1350958.

Please accept our sincere thanks and appreciation in advance for your willingness to support our efforts.

 Sincerely,

 Christy Korrow-Executive Director
