Instead of Col2 AS dbo.funcName(), use Col2=dbo.funcName(). Here is an example:   
CREATE FUNCTION myTest() RETURNS INT AS
BEGIN
   RETURN 10
END GO DECLARE myCursor CURSOR FOR
   SELECT au_id, auTest = dbo.myTest() FROM authors
DECLARE @au_id VARCHAR(100)
DECLARE @myTest INT OPEN myCursor
FETCH NEXT FROM myCursor INTO @au_id, @myTest
SELECT @au_id, @myTest
CLOSE myCursor
DEALLOCATE myCursor GO   HTH, Srinivas Sampath MVP-SQL Server
