Don't copy all the records in one go. Copy them in batches. Also, SQL Server has an 
option for bulk-copy that does minimal logging, since during bulk-copy you would not 
want point-in-time restore. Rather, you can backup your database, run the bulk-copy 
and restore it if something went wrong.   You can use both DTS and BCP to do this task 
at good speed. The option for bulk-copy is called select into/bulkcopy which you can
