The value of variable itemsPerRow should be the new assigned value(as per somelogic). Actually <%# creates data bound control (a System.Web.UI.DataBoundLiteralControl) which will be called at the time of Repeater1.DataBind();so it is obvious to take present value (default 3) . Now itemsPerRow will be assigned to a new DataBoundLiteralcontrol.
